Black Mountain Bowmen April updates

Greetings BMBers!

Spring is in the air... or is that tree pollen? Here are your BMB updates for April, 2024:

  • With the warmer weather comes the return of Santa Teresa County Park's more problematic denizens: ticks and rattlesnakes. Stay safe! Keep yourself and your pets out of overgrown and tall grassy areas; wear long pants and sturdy close-toed shoes. Check for ticks when leaving the range, as they can hang on to clothes to bite at a later time.
  • Speaking of which... We have a Work Party coming up this Saturday, April 6th. On the list of many maintenance items is trimming back some of the grass and foliage on the field course trails. Come lend a hand and help make the range safer and more enjoyable for yourself and your fellow archers! Things get started at 8 AM (latecomers and non-members welcome); the range will remain closed for the duration of work activities.
  • The monthly Club Shoot happens on Sunday, April 14th. As is usual for outdoor archery season, the format will be an NFAA 900: 5 ends of 6 arrows at 3 distances (60, 50, 40 yards for adults; closer for youth and cub shooters). If you're new to the format, here's an introductory video from the NFAA. The shoot is free for BMB club members, $10 for non-members; you can help us with logistics and planning by pre-registering online.
  • The Wednesday Night 3D League is in full swing! With 10 events remaining, for those who haven't yet joined, this week will be your last chance to join to compete for a series championship title, as a minimum of 10 scores are required to qualify. Not interested in competing? Come on out anyway, 3D archery is a fun way to exercise your shooting skills! More details (and current results) can be found at the Club's 3D League web page.
  • The Club is raising funds to install a memorial bench in honor of long-time member Bob DeLong, who passed away recently. Bob was instrumental in building many of the club facilities we enjoy today, and in recent years could frequently be seen mowing the grass and volunteering his time and efforts to the archery club he so loved. Donations towards the memorial feature can be made at the 3D League registration table, or online via this link. Thank you!

That's all for this month! Stay safe out there, and happy shooting!
