Hello BMB'ers, autumn is finally upon us as the days grow shorter and we feel a chill in the air. While many archers would call this "indoor season", we're lucky to be situated where we can enjoy archery in the great outdoors year-round. Indoors or outdoors, there's lots going on this coming month at the range and with the club:
- Our next monthly range maintenance Work Party will take place this Saturday, November 2. Last month we put the finishing touches on maintenance of the upper 14 field course. The targets on the lower 14 course and practice range now need a bit of TLC.
- We need your help to service the targets and perform other maintenance and upkeep items. There's lots to do and all sorts of different tasks, so anyone can help.
- Things get started at 8 AM (late arrivals okay). Please bring work/gardening gloves if you have them. Both club members and non-members are encouraged to participate; we appreciate all the help we can get!
- As a thank-you to our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
- All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
- Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
- This month's Club Shoot occurs on Sunday, November 10. To help archers practice for the season's indoor competitions, the format will be a double 300: two rounds, each round with 10 ends of 3 arrows, shot at 20 yards (18m) (closer for cub archers). Please help us with planning and logistics by pre-registering online for the shoot.
- Indoor tournament season kicks off with the Mission Trails Bowhunters Association Indoor 450 regional tournaments, happening at three different nearby venues this month. Space is limited and shooting time slots are filling up fast so head on over to the MTBA website to learn more and get registered!
- Black Mountain Bowmen needs YOU!
Specifically, nominations for the BMB 2025 Board of Directors are now open. This club needs talented, dedicated, and innovative leadership to make Black Mountain Bowmen a great place and organization for all archers in the San José and surrounding areas. If you have ideas for improving the club or the range, if you'd like to help organize club events or spearhead club initiatives, if you want to be part of the decision-making process to maintain and improve the club's operations, please consider running for the Board!
Nominations are open for all club leadership positions: President, 1st Vice-President (Tournament Chair), 2nd Vice-President (Legislative Representative), Secretary, Treasurer, Range Captain, Membership Director, and 6 Directors-at-large. Descriptions of the club officer duties can be found in the BMB By-Laws. Not sure which position is for you? Just say so on the nomination form and we can discuss with you what roles might be the best fit for you.
The only requirement for nomination is that you must have been a member of BMB for at least six months. So please feel free to nominate yourself, or a fellow club member (with their consent of course!).
Please complete the nomination form here. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!
And since it is (about to be) November, in keeping with the spirit of Thanksgiving, thank you for supporting Black Mountain Bowmen, and for the great year of archery we've had. See you at the range!
