Black Mountain Bowmen February 2025 updates

Hello BMB members, it's hard to believe we're already a month into 2025... Happy Lunar New Year to all of you who celebrate; may this Year of the Snake bring prosperity, happiness, and hopefully not too many actual snakes!

Here are your updates for February:

  • Thank you to all of you who have renewed your membership for 2025! Your support ensures we have the funds needed to maintain and improve the range we all enjoy. For those of you who haven't renewed yet, you can do so via this link, or learn more about the streamlined membership signup/renewal process via our website.
  • Atmospheric river inbound! On account of the likely event of rain this weekend, we've decided to reschedule monthly range maintenance Work Party back a week to Saturday, February 8.
    • We got a fair bit done last Work Party (thank you the few hardy souls who made it!), but a number of targets on the practice range and lower course could use some love.
    • We get started around 8 AM (late arrivals okay); meet up in the main parking area by the club sheds. Please bring work/gardening gloves if you have them. Both club members and non-members are encouraged to participate; we're truly grateful for all the help we can get!
    • As a thank-you to our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
    • All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
    • Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
  • February's Club Shoot happens on the following day, Sunday, February 9. In response to popular demand, we're going back to the outdoor 900 tournament format a month early. The format is an NFAA 900: 5 ends of 6 arrows at 3 distances (60, 50, 40 yards for adults; closer for youth, cub shooters and traditional-style bows). (Here's a great introductory video from the fine folks over at Pasadena Roving Archers.)
  • Entries are filling up fast for the California State Outdoor Championships, taking place June 27-29 at the Kirigin Cellars vineyard in Gilroy. If you're interested in competing, register as soon as you can over at USA Archery's website.
  • Registration is also open for the 2025 Bay Area Senior Games archery tournament, happening on April 20 at BMB.

That's about it for this shortest month. Stay dry and have fun, everyone!
