Greetings, BMB'ers!
May is just about upon us and spring is starting to look more and more like summer. Outdoor season is well under way; well done and congratulations to BMB members who've distinguished themselves on the national stage in Arizona and Florida! Here's what we've got going on at BMB this coming month:
- Jerseys! Orders are open through Friday, May 9 for BMB archery jerseys. You can learn more and see what they look like over on our website, or head straight to the order form to put in your order. We're anticipating getting the jerseys by mid-June, in time for you to represent your club at tournaments and events later this summer.
- The 2025 Wednesday Night 3D League is almost halfway through its run, with the sixth event happening this week. New for this year are expanded age and equipment divisions; learn more on our 3D League web page, or come on out any Wednesday evening through June 11, 4pm through 6pm.
- The May range maintenance Work Party is scheduled for this Saturday, May 3; cool weather is predicted which should make for pleasant working conditions. If you use the range, please come out and help us keep it in tip top shape!
- Work starts around 8 AM (late arrivals okay); come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. Please bring work/gardening gloves if you have them. Both members and non-members are welcome; we appreciate any help!
- To thank our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
- All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
- Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
- Our Club Shoot for the month of May takes place on Sunday, May 11. This is a tournament-style shoot featuring an NFAA 900 round format: 5 ends of 6 arrows at 3 distances (60, 50, 40 yards for adults; closer for youth, cub shooters). (The fine folks over at Pasadena Roving Archers have a great introductory video if you're new to tournament archery.) Club shoots are a great way to get introduced to tournament-format archery, in a casual low-stakes environment. The event is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests. If you're considering attending, please consider pre-registering to help us plan target assignments and other logistics.
- Our friends over at Predators Archery will be holding the annual Arrows At The Vineyard tournament on Memorial Day (Monday, May 26). We anticipate that registration will open soon so please keep an eye on the event web page for registration and details.
- A celebration of life event for Jon Ray, friend and coach to many in the Bay Area archery community, who passed away earlier this year, is planned for Sunday, May 25, 12pm to 3pm. The event will take place at the BMB picnic area between the parking lot and practice range; all are welcome to attend.
- Registration is still open for the California State Outdoor Championships coming up on June 27-29 at the Kirigin Cellars vineyard in Gilroy. If you're interested in competing, you can register at USA Archery's website.
- Snakes! They're part of the natural environment at the BMB range, but we've had more sightings and encounters than usual this year. (Check out these rattlesnake safety tips!) If you see one, give it a wide berth and let others know. Rattlesnakes don't usually pose a threat if left alone; if one is located somewhere where it needs to be relocated, please let someone on the BMB team know, or contact a Park Ranger (via County Dispatch, 408-299-2311). As is the case with other wildlife, it is illegal to harm snakes in Santa Clara County Parks; this is their home, too!
It's looking to be a great month for archery. Good luck to everyone attending the tournament in Redding this weekend, and at other tournaments this month!
See you at the range!
- The BMB Directors
