Greetings, Black Mountain Bowmen members!
Spring is in the air… or is that tree pollen? Here are your BMB updates for the coming month:
- The next Work Party is scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd. The weather outlook again looks rather unfavorable… However, in addition to the usual wear and tear, the recent storms have taken a toll on the range facilities, and maintenance is sorely needed. So, if the weather forces us to skip the scheduled date, please look for a rescheduled date.
- The next Club Shoot will take place on Sunday, March 10. This will be the first outdoor-format club shoot of the year; the format is a “900”: 5 ends of 6 arrows at 60, 50, and 40 yards (90 arrows total) (closer distance for cub archers). The entry fee is $10 for non-members, free for members. If you plan to attend, please fill out the pre-registration form to help us plan the event.
- Wednesday Night 3D League begins March 20! You can learn all about it over at the 3D League page on the BMB website.
- We will open online registration for 3D League events very soon, so please look out for an announcement. (Online registration and payment are not required, but we will give priority to archers who reserved shoot start times ahead of time.)
- Long-time BMB member Bob DeLong, a friend to many in the archery community, passed away recently. A Celebration of Life service will be held in his honor on Monday, March 11. All of Bob's friends and fellow archers are welcome to join. More details can be found here.
- As previously announced, BMB board meeting minutes are now available for review by all BMB members, over on the club website. The BMB leadership is committed to transparency, and encourages all members to take an interest in club business.
What’s a Work Party?
We keep saying it as if everyone knows; on (usually) the first Saturday of each month:
- Volunteers get together and perform various maintenance tasks on the club’s archery facilities. Typical tasks include:
- Servicing targets, replacing bales and target faces, and making needed repairs.
- Preparing target faces for use on range targets.
- Generally tidying things up and performing tasks not possible when arrows are flying.
- You don’t have to be a member! We welcome all volunteers.
- You don’t have to show up at 8am! While we appreciate it if you can be there bright and early, if you need to sleep in a bit, we understand and will still value your help.
- You don’t have to show up every time! If every club member showed up just 2 or 3 times a year, we would have more than enough hands to get all the work done.
- The condition of the range depends entirely on the number of volunteers who show up. Let’s all do our part and help make BMB the best archery range it can be!
That's it for this month; stay tuned for an announcement about 3D League...
See you at the range!
