Black Mountain Bowmen July 2026 updates

Greetings BMB'ers!

Summer is officially here and BMB archers have been distinguishing themselves at tournaments near and far. Well done to everyone who shot at the NFAA Field Sectionals, CBH State Field Championship, USAT SoCal Showdown and California State Outdoor tournaments this past month!

June also saw the final events in our 2026 Wednesday Night 3D League series. Thank you to everyone who participated, and especially to everyone who volunteered to make the League happen this year!

Thanks also to everyone who came out BMB's inaugural Santa Teresa Cup tournament! The event ran smoothly, we had great attendance with our tournament range and targets at near full capacity, and the weather conditions, while warm, weren't overly challenging. We're already looking forward to next year's event and thinking about how we might make things even better, so if you've got any ideas or suggestions, we'd be happy for your feedback.

There's still lots more to do archery-wise this summer; here's what's going on at BMB in July:

  • The monthly range maintenance Work Party takes place as scheduled (first Saturday of the month) on Saturday, July 4. We realize many of you may have plans for this holiday weekend, but we'd really appreciate anyone who can come out to help us with all the various tasks to maintain and improve the range that we all enjoy.
    • No experience needed; members and non-members alike are welcome!
    • Work starts around 8 AM; come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. If arriving late, just look around and any of the volunteers on site can point you in the right direction.
    • Dress as if for yard work, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
    • As a thank-you to our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
    • All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
    • Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
  • The July Club Shoot will take place on Sunday, July 12. The Club Shoot format for the outdoor season is the NFAA 900 round:
    • Archers will shoot three rounds, each of five 6-arrow ends, at 60, 50, and 40 yards, on 122-cm 10-ring targets (shorter distances for youth and cub archers).
    • There will be two ends of practice prior to the first round (distance), and 10-15 minute breaks between each round.
    • Archers will be grouped and assigned to targets by division according to NFAA rules.
    • New to tournament archery? Check out this great introductory video from the fine folks over at Pasadena Roving Archers.
    • The shoot is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests.
    • Walk-ons are welcome, though we do appreciate those who help us plan ahead by preregistering.
    • Setup begins around 8am, and we aim to start shooting around 9am.
  • The Wednesday Night 3D League BBQ/Potluck will be held on Saturday, July 11, starting at noon.
    • We'll be presenting awards to this year's League top finishers, raffling off a variety of archery gear, and serving up some tasty grilled fare.
    • Everyone (and their family) who shot or volunteered at a 3D League event is welcome.
    • If you are planning to attend or even just considering it, please RSVP so that we can get a picture of how many folks to expect, and plan accordingly.
  • Registration is open for the MTBA Regional 900 tournament, taking place at BMB on the weekend of August 8-9.
    • You can shoot either on Saturday or Sunday, or both if shooting in two different equipment divisions.
    • Help earn points for BMB as we vie for the 2026 MTBA Club of the Year title!
    • Pre-registration is required, so fill in the online form if you intend to participate.

Looking for more events? Here's a sample of what's going on at other MTBA ranges in the region:

  • King's Mountain Archers is hosting their annual Skyline 3D Shoot on Sunday, July 19.

That's just about it for this first full month of summer. Stay cool and/or hydrated, everyone, and don't skimp on the sunblock!

See you at the range!
