Greetings, BMB archers!
We hope everyone is enjoying the cooler fall weather and getting the setups and sight marks dialed in for indoor season.
Nominations are now open for candidates for the Black Mountain Bowmen 2027 Board of Directors! What does the BoD do? We meet monthly (via Zoom) to make plans and decisions about range facilities and club activities. We decide how club funds are spent in support of those, discuss ongoing and emerging issues and how to work towards resolving them. Some of us volunteer additional time and effort, though that's not required for most BoD positions. Put another way, the "real" requirements are pretty simple: (1) you are a current BMB member; (2) you care about the club. The health of the club relies on having leadership that is engaged and interested, so please consider nominating yourself (or someone else, if they agree) via the nomination form.
As ours is an outdoor range, we don't have a whole lot going on with regards to organized events this season, but there are still ways to get involved in the month ahead:
- Our next monthly range maintenance Work Party is scheduled for Saturday, November 7. With the weather forecast to be clear and cool, this will be a great opportunity to work on items that badly need addressing, such as servicing targets on the upper field course.
- No experience needed; members and non-members alike are welcome!
- Work starts around 8 AM (need to sleep in a bit? no problem, come on out!); come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. If arriving late, just look around and any of the volunteers on site can point you in the right direction.
- Dress as if for yard work, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
- As a thank-you to our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
- All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and may reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
- Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
- November's Club Shoot will be held the following day, Sunday, November 8. As a practice for upcoming indoor competitions, the format will be an indoor-style double 300 round:
- Archers will shoot two rounds, each round 10 ends of 3 arrows, at 20 yards (18m), on individual 40cm targets (60cm for cub archers), with a 15 minute break in between the rounds. Those shooting 40cm targets may choose between a 10-ring target and a 3-spot target. Archers will have 2 ends of practice prior to the official shoot. Target assignments will be posted the morning of the event at the range. Archers will be grouped by division according to NFAA rules.
- The shoot is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests.
- Walk-ons are welcome, though we do appreciate those who help us plan ahead by preregistering.
- Setup begins around 8am, and we aim to start shooting around 9am.
- Spots are filling up fast for the MTBA Indoor 450 tournament, hosted at various locations around the Bay Area on weekends from November 7 to November 22.
- The format is an NFAA 450: 3 games of 15 3-arrow ends (for a total of 45 arrows, and potentially up to 450 points), shot at 20 yards (18 meters) on either a 10-ring 40 cm face, or 3-spot 40 cm face.
