Black Mountain Bowmen November 2025 updates

Happy spooky season everyone! With all of this year's big outdoor tournaments now behind us, USA Archery recently announced selections for next year's national US Archery team, and we're thrilled and so very proud to count three BMB members who will be representing this country at international tournaments in 2026: Marianna Finkel (Compound Women 50+), Roman Kravchuk (Fixed Pins Men U15), Joseph "JoJo" Rosal (Compound Men U18). Congratulations! Your successes are an inspiration to all of us.

Indoor season is ramping up but there's still plenty to do for archers who prefer the great outdoors; here are your reminders and updates for the month ahead:

  • Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! The second annual SJSU Spartan CAT Shoot is happening this Sunday, October 26!
    • This will be a mixed field/3D event, shot on the entire BMB field course.
    • Entry fees will be $10 for children under 11, $15 for kids under 18, $30 for adults; BMB members and college students receive a $5 discount.
    • Proceeds go towards supporting the SJSU Archery team.
    • Check-ins begin at 8am; walk-ons are welcome.
    • See our previous post for more information.
  • Our monthly range maintenance Work Party takes place on Saturday, November 1. Come out and help us take care of our archery range and facilities, and work off some of those Hallowe'en candy calories!
    • Work starts around 8 AM (late arrivals okay); come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. BMB members and non-members are welcome and appreciated!
      • Dress as if for yard work, make sure you've got plenty of sunblock and water, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
    • To thank our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
    • All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
    • Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
  • Our monthly Club Shoot will be held on Sunday, November 9. To help archers practice for upcoming indoor competitions, the format will be an indoor-style double-300:
    • Archers will shoot two rounds, each round 10 ends of 3 arrows, at 20 yards (18m), on individual 40cm targets (60cm for cub archers), with a 15 minute break in between the rounds. Those shooting 40cm targets may choose between a 10-ring target and a 3-spot target. Archers will have 2 ends of practice prior to the official shoot. Target assignments will be posted the morning of the event at the range. Archers will be grouped by division according to NFAA rules.
    • As usual, the shoot is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests.
    • Walk-ons are welcome, though we do appreciate those who help us plan ahead by preregistering.
    • Setup begins around 8am, and we aim to start shooting around 9am.
  • Participate in this fall's regional MTBA Indoor 450 Tournament and help BMB win MTBA club of the year!
    • The event takes place at various dates, times, and locations, November 1-16.
    • Registration is required to reserve your shooting time slot; spots are limited and almost full so sign up soon!
    • Entry fees are listed on the registration form and must be paid in cash or check on location.
  • We will be sending out an order of BMB archery shooting jerseys the first week of November.
    • If you've been waiting to get your jersey, now is the time to place your order!
    • Jerseys are ordered through GNB (formerly YoungSpeeds). Orders are batched up, produced, and shipped to us for distribution to everyone who purchased them.
  • Nominations are open for next year's Black Mountain Bowmen Board of Directors (BoD):
    • The BoD meets every month and makes decisions about club finances, range operations, events, and other club activities. Check out our meeting minutes to get an idea of some of the things we get up to.
    • The only qualifications are BMB membership and a desire to help out, so please consider signing up!
  • As always, we're on the lookout for materials to use to build and maintain things around the range. If you have leftover, salvaged, or unused construction materials such as lumber, plywood, metal, and hardware, please get in touch with us (or just drop it off and we'll figure it out)!
    • We also need large clean pieces of cardboard for target faces; feel free to drop those off next to the club trailer or behind the food serving counter in the picnic area.

Have a safe, fun Hallowe'en everyone... See you at the range!
