Black Mountain Bowmen March 2026 updates

Hi BMB'ers! We hope everyone has been enjoying the great turn in the weather we've seen recently. Things are looking decidedly spring-like at the range... including clouds of pollen wafting off the trees; allergy sufferers, plan accordingly! With indoor season wrapping up and conditions for outdoor archery getting better each week, here are your BMB updates for this month:

  • If you haven't already, please renew your BMB membership for 2026. Thank you for your support!
  • The next monthly range maintenance Work Party is happening on Saturday, March 7. Please come and help out with some upkeep to get the range in tip-top shape. We've got a lot of green stuff that needs to be trimmed and mowed, and more targets are ready to be upgraded to the new high-density bales that should stop arrows better and last longer, reducing the amount of necessary maintenance down the road.
    • Work starts around 8 AM (late arrivals okay); come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. Both BMB members and non-members are welcome!
      • Dress as if for yard work, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
    • To thank our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
    • All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
    • Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
  • The March Club Shoot will take place the next day, Sunday, March 8. With indoor season about wrapped up, this month we'll be switching to our usual outdoor shoot format, the NFAA 900:
    • Archers will shoot three rounds, each of five 6-arrow ends, at 60, 50, and 40 yards, on 122-cm 10-ring targets (shorter distances for youth and cub archers).
    • There will be two ends of practice prior to the first round (distance), and 10-15 minute breaks between each round.
    • Archers will be grouped and assigned to targets by division according to NFAA rules.
    • New to tournament archery? Check out this great introductory video from the fine folks at Pasadena Roving Archers.
    • As usual, the shoot is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests.
    • Walk-ons are welcome, though we do appreciate those who help us plan ahead by preregistering.
    • Setup begins around 8am, and we aim to start shooting around 9am.
      • Don't forget, Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday!
  • Pre-registration is still open for the first regional tournament of the year, the MTBA Regional Marked 3D Tournament, happening on Sunday, March 15 at Salinas Bowmen.
    • Learn more about the event by checking out the event flyer.
    • Pre-register to reserve your spot for the event by filling out the online form.
  • Our Wednesday Night 3D League begins on Wednesday, March 18, and runs for 12 weeks.
    • New to 3D archery? Come on out and try your hand at shooting at animal targets at various distances, elevations and angles. It's a lot of fun and a great way to test your archery skills.
    • During 3D League events, the field course (lower and upper 14) will be closed (starting around 2pm) except to those participating in the event. The practice range will remain open to the public.
    • More details including pricing and rules will be available soon after they're finalized this week. Stay tuned to the BMB announcements mailing list or our 3D League web page for more details.
    • Interested in helping out with event setup or registration? Volunteers get to shoot for free! Contact us if you'd like to help.

That's all for this month. Good luck to everyone competing at the Vegas Shoot later this month... make us proud!
