Black Mountain Bowmen August 2026 updates

Hello BMB'ers!

We hope everyone is having a great summer and getting plenty of time to enjoy this sport we all enjoy.

National champions among our ranks! BMB youth archers triumphed at the USA Archery JOAD Target Nationals tournament in Nebraska last weekend. Ilina Upadhyaya, Ashwath Manu, and Aania Powar took top honors, winning first place in Barebow U13 Women, Barebow U13 Men, and Barebow U15 Women divisions (respectively). JoJo Rosal and Brandon Nishihara also put in strong showings in their respective divisions. Huge congratulations to them and to all the BMB archers representing our little club on the national stage!

Speaking of tournaments, we've got a few happening locally in the next couple months; here are your BMB updates for August:

  • Our monthly range maintenance Work Party is happening this Saturday, August 1. If you're not off hunting dinosaurs, please come by and help us maintain and improve the archery range we all share.
    • No experience needed; members and non-members alike are welcome!
    • Work starts around 8 AM (latecomers okay); come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. If arriving late, just look around and any of the volunteers on site can point you in the right direction.
    • Dress as if for yard work, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
    • As a thank-you to our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
    • All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
    • Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
  • There's no Club Shoot this month, as on BMB will be hosting...
  • ... The MTBA Regional 900 tournament, taking place at BMB on the weekend of August 8-9.
    • You can shoot either on Saturday or Sunday, or both if shooting in two different equipment divisions.
    • The format is an NFAA 900, just like our Club Shoots.
    • Help earn points for BMB as we vie for the 2026 MTBA Club of the Year title!
    • Pre-registration is required and closes next week, so fill in the online form if you intend to participate.
    • NFAA and BMB memberships required.
  • Registration is open for the CBH/SAA State 900 tournament happening at various locations and on various dates, including BMB on September 12-13.
    • Online registration for the BMB-hosted shoots can be found here.
    • Find other venues and opportunities to participate over on the CBH website.
    • NFAA membership required.
  • Just like last year, BMB is hosting Santa Clara County Parks' Taste of Archery introductory archery event on Saturday, August 15. This is an opportunity for members of the public to try out archery for the first time.
    • There will be two sessions, 8 AM and 10 AM.
    • Volunteers needed! We need help with setting up the event, as well as instructors for the event. This is a great outreach opportunity for the club and a great way to get new people into the sport.
    • Please get in touch with us if you're interested in helping out.

Lots happening at BMB this month, and lots happening on the tournament scene as well. Good luck to everyone shooting at 1 Million BC this weekend, at the MTBA Regional 900 next weekend, at USA Archery Target Nationals later this month, or at any of the many other tournaments happening this month!

See you at the range!
