With Memorial Day past, summer is effectively upon us as June rolls in with long warm sunny days. We've got lots going on in the local archery scene, at BMB and all around the Bay Area (and beyond). Here are your BMB updates for this month:
- Work Party this Saturday, June 1... Please come and help! With increased usage at the range, wear and tear on the target bales and other archery facilities has reached its peak, and the range is in dire need of maintenance. The upper field course is severely overgrown, and we need to clear a trail through the vegetation so that field course shoots aren't adventures in dodging ticks, poison oak, and rattlesnakes.
Things get started at 8am (but late arrivals are welcome). Please bring work/gardening gloves if you have them, and of course plenty of water and sunscreen. Members and non-members alike are welcome (so bring a friend!) and we appreciate all the help we can get!
The entire range will be closed to all archery until work is completed, no earlier than 2pm. (We continue to be impressed by how many people wander in, pretending they don't understand the "Range Closed" sign we put up at the entrance.) - Our monthly Club Shoot will be held on Sunday, June 8. The format will be an NFAA 900 target round: 5 ends of 6 arrows at 3 distances (60, 50, 40 yards for adults; closer for youth and cub shooters). Need more info? Check out this introductory video from our friends at Pasadena Roving Archers.
The shoot is free for BMB club members, $10 for non-members; online pre-registration is optional but appreciated, as it helps us plan things ahead of time. - Our 2024 Wednesday Night 3D League series comes to a close this month, with one regular scheduled event remaining. Following that, we will be holding a BBQ/potluck for all 3D League participants, where we will present awards and raffle off some prizes, at a future date to be announced.
- On Saturday, June 22, BMB will be hosting Santa Clara County Parks' "Taste Of Archery" event to introduce members of the public to archery. Volunteers, please come help out and share your love of the sport with first-time archers! (Contact us if you are interested in helping out.)
(The parking lot will be reserved for this event, but the rest of the range should remain open for use.) - Safety reminder: with all the lush vegetation that grew this spring now drying out, this is a reminder to all BMB users that per the County Park rules, smoking (and vaping) is prohibited on the range and trails, for obvious fire safety reasons.
Be safe out there everyone. Look out for snakes, use plenty of sunblock, and stay hydrated... See you at the range!
