Black Mountain Bowmen August updates

Greetings BMB'ers, we hope everyone is enjoying a nice summer so far. Here are a few things coming up at the range next month:

  • Our monthly Work Party, happens this Saturday, August 3. The weather forecast looks to be "typically warm" but getting an early start should keep us out of hotter parts of the day.
    • The club and your fellow archers need your help! Nothing at the range gets done without volunteer effort to do it. If you're a regular user of the range, you're the first person to benefit from those efforts, so please come pitch in!
    • Things get started at 8 AM (late arrivals okay). Please bring work/gardening gloves, and make sure you've got plenty of water and sunscreen. Both club members and non-members are encouraged to participate, as we appreciate all the help we can get!
    • All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
    • As a thank-you to our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
  • The monthly Club Shoot that normally happens on the second Sunday, is not happening this month on account of the...
  • ... MTBA (Mission Trails Bowhunter Association) Regional Target 900 tournament happening at BMB on August 10-11. You can shoot either day or both days if shooting in two different equipment classes. Anyone may participate, but you must be an MTBA member to be eligible for trophies. Please pre-register for the tournament to help us with planning and logistics. Shoot fees are to be paid by check or cash at the event (consult the tournament page for the fee structure).
  • The rest of the BMB range will be closed while tournament activities are ongoing.
  • Registration is open for the 2024 CBH/SAA State Target Championship 900 Round at BMB on September 14-15. You can register to shoot on Saturday or Sunday (or maybe both, as above), online or via the form attached to the event flyer. Similar to the regional tournament, anyone can participate but NFAA membership is required for trophy eligibility.
  • Fire season is here! We had a close call this past month with a 35-acre brush fire that burned the hills nearby and forced an evacuation of the range. A reminder of some safety tips to reduce fire risk:
    • No smoking anywhere on the range (or in Santa Teresa County Park for that matter).
    • Unapproved use of grills, burners, stoves, etc. anywhere in the range/park is strictly prohibited.
    • Avoid parking vehicles over grass or vegetation, as hot engine and exhaust components can easily set things ablaze.

Stay cool and stay safe everyone! See you at the range!
