Hello BMB'ers, welcome to spooky month! It looks like while we may be done with summer, summer isn't quite done with us. Anyway, here are your updates for October:
- Our next monthly range maintenance Work Party is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 (editor's note: changed to reflect rescheduled date).
The current forecast has this week's heat wave ebbing a bit by then, and we're crossing our fingers that temperatures will fall off faster than that.- Thanks to the engineering and fabrication efforts of longtime BMB hero Stan, we have a new bale compressor to make target bales that should stop arrows better and last longer than ever before. Thank you, Stan!
- We need your help to make replacement bales and install them wherever they're needed, as well as other maintenance and upkeep items; there are a wide variety of tasks, so anyone can help. Remember, the range is only in as good a condition as we make it, so please consider pitching in!
- Things get started at 8 AM (late arrivals okay). Please bring work/gardening gloves if you have them. Both club members and non-members are encouraged to participate; we appreciate all the help we can get!
- As a thank-you to our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
- All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
- We've elected to skip this month's Club Shoot, as the date conflicts with the Encore Games (below) event. Start working on your indoor-distance shooting for next month's Club Shoot!
- The 2024 Bay Area Senior Games "Encore" archery tournament which will take place at BMB on Sunday, October 13. This is an NFAA 900-format shoot; eligible seniors (50+) can register via this link. We could use a few volunteers to help with setup and registration for this event; please contact Dawnel if you can help!
- Still got the tournament itch? Here are a couple nearby events happening this month:
- Yahi Bowmen of Modesto are holding their Fall Fling 3D shoot event on Saturday, October 19. See their website for more information and registration.
- SF Archers in Pacifica recently announced that they will be holding the 2024 Coyote 600 shoot on Sunday, October 27; see their Facebook event page for more details.
Keep cool and be safe, everyone! See you at the range!
